Change Your Mind!
Most of us settle into ways of thinking that we’ve held on to for years because it’s what was taught to us, or many other people think that way - so we do too! But what if God wants to change your mind or shake up your belief system? Will you let Him?
The difference between religion and a fluid love relationship with the Lord is the ability to move past rigid rules and systems to an intimacy that’s always growing and changing. In the book of Acts chapter 10, we see a radical change of mind take place in the life of Peter.
When an Italian officer named Cornelius miraculously receives a visit from an angel instructing him to send men to a home in Joppa and then wait for further instructions - he obeys the instructions given to him without question.
In the meantime, Peter is staying with a tanner in a house by the sea. While praying on the rooftop, he receives a strange vision that contradicts everything he’s been taught and believed.
Mind Change Key #1: God places us in unusual places or circumstances to show us He’s in control—not our rules or definitions of holiness.
After Peter receives the vision, he hears men knocking at the door and he knows they’ve been sent by God. He travels with them back to Cornelius and suddenly, he understands what God was trying to tell him in the vision.
Mind Change Key #2 There will be times when past behavior that we viewed as holy will change to new behavior, which is Spirit-led and inspired.
Peter’s willingness to move beyond his staunch belief system and embrace something new changed the face of Christianity and changed him as a leader of the new church.
Gutsy Faith Challenge:
Ponder this…Are we more committed to our mindset than we are to what God might want to change?
