It’s NOT All in Your Head
Many people don’t believe in the devil, but you can bet he believes in you! We do have a real enemy and his name is satan. His battleground and territory he tries to dominate is simply…our minds.
There are three ways we can fight this enemy, without lifting a finger. We can: discern, decide and descend
Discern: When you’re serious about living for Jesus, and sick of old mentalities that lead to destruction, that’s when discernment grows. A discerning person is one who distinguishes, detects and recognizes what’s going on around them. When Jesus taught on knowing truth, and the power of truth to set us free—he was giving us the key to the kingdom. Often we’re so wrapped up in lies and deception that we can’t see truth, let alone know it!
In John 8 Jesus teaches a group of religious people that religion is not enough. We need to be able to discern where lies are coming from. He calls satan:
The Father of Lies (John 8: 43-44)
An accuser who accuses the brethren day and night. (Revelation 12:10)
Decide: Once we know we’re dealing with lies and deception, it’s up to us to decide what to do about it! We can do this in two ways:
Take my thoughts captive (2 Corinthian 10:3-5)
Resolve to believe only truth
There’s a “truth exchange” available to us all, where we can exchange lies, one by one, for truth. It’s a deliberate and strong decision that can CHANGE our minds.
Descend: Once we’ve discerned and decided—it’s time to descend on the enemy and the territory he’s tried to steal. Like David fought the giant Goliath, we fight the giant of our problems, disappointments, and struggles. David used a slingshot and five smooth stones, but the real battle was in his mind. He already decided, based on his past experience trusting God, that HIS Lord was bigger than the taunts of this fake one. In the end, the truth won and the enemy was defeated.
We can fight the same way with the same outcome. One thought at a time…
