Filled For More
Have you ever felt like the most spiritual people are the one with microphones, degrees, and speaking platforms? In the book of Exodus 31: 1-6, we encounter a surprising man named Bezalel. He is the first person described as being filled with the Spirit of God.
Bezalel was a craftsman and artist—not a priest. God was using him to create beauty in the Tent of Meeting, a place where God would share His presence with man. God filled Bezalel so his artistic creativity could be on display through design and beauty. This is surprising, as culture tends to think that creativity doesn’t compare with spirituality. But God shows that they are intrinsically linked.
Here’s why this is important:
The Tent of Meeting Mattered. God cared about the fabric, colors, textures, lighting, furniture and symbolism in the place he would meet His people. God was intentional about where people encountered Him.
God teaches us that His gifts are uniquely personal. We often dimmish ourselves by thinking “I’m just a writer.” Or, “I’m just a homemaker.” We need to understand that our gifting is not random and our wiring is not accidental. Our creativity has Kingdom purpose.
Our identity comes from God not the world. Our identity informs our assignments. God gives us grace for certain tasks. This gives our lives meaning and purpose. When we surrender our creativity to Him, if can become a doorway to encounter the Spirit of God within us.
