What Do You Do On the Worst Day of Your Life?

Rejoicing in good times is filled with joy and pleasure, but how do you respond when everything that can go wrong…does?

In 1 Samuel 30:1-5 we see David in a time of confusion and need. He’s been exiled to the country of his enemies as his own leader and King, King Saul, has been hunting him to kill him. He’s been hiding in Philistine territory, and was even given his own land within that region to settle, a region called Ziklag. David was living in duplicity as he fought some battles for his enemies, the Philistines, while still holding allegiance to his home as an Israelite. While returning to Ziklag with his men, David found the Amalekites raided their homes and took all their women, children, and possessions. The Bible says that David and his men wept until they had no more tears.

David allows himself to experience his emotions, but he doesn’t get stuck in them.

1 Samuel 30:6 says he found his strength in the Lord.

David guarded his heat against bitterness, and like a good leader, found a way to rally his men to fight for the good of the people.

David goes to the priest and seeks the Lord for new strategy. Because he sought the Lord in this time of anguish rather that reacting from his flesh, the Lord answered him directly. God said to PURSUE his enemy and affirmed that he would overtake them and succeed in the rescue.

All of us have our personal “Ziklag” moments and version of our worst day—but when we seek the Lord and courageously fight for our future, nothing will overcome our faith.
